Sorbet skies in the Southwest desert
Downtown Hobbs, NM

Acrylic exterior paint & spray paint |

17’ x 17’ | 2025

This piece is inspired by the diverse plants and landscapes of the desert. Using vibrant, saturated colors and varied perspectives, along with a striking sunset and New Mexico’s Zia symbol, I aimed to capture the endless beauty of the Southwest. While deserts are often seen as barren, this work highlights their richness, life, and inspiration. It also reflects the importance of respecting and preserving the land that has sustained us for centuries. I hope this piece sparks joy, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the desert—look a little closer at the cacti; they’re pretty incredible.

Contrast City

Temporary installation at the University of Colorado Denver Gallery Steel metal rod, black tape | 2023

This piece was a play on positive and negative space within the different organic shapes provided within the world, using black vinyl tape and a metal rod. I was inspired by the unique and urban buildings displayed in the beautiful city of Denver. Using the wall as the negative space and the black vinyl tape as the positive aspects, I created buildings that used shape, form, and pattern to suggest dimension and plane. I wanted to create a type of illusion that allowed the negative space to push back and positive space to protrude, creating dimensionality. The metal rod itself is embedded diagonally in the middle, to separate the alternating buildings.

It is off-centered, just like the buildings themselves, to signify how the world is not always even, or how it seems. Nothing is always exact, but everything does have some shape and form. I chose to incorporate design elements and patterns to further represent and visualize something playful and fun, and that everyone can relate to. At some point in our lives we have seen some sort of building, and not the exact same, but still resemble each other. The patterns showcased also act as part of the intentional value, to have contrast between each shape. Instead of discarding the tape roll, I decided to incorporate it in the piece to add more dimension, and as a symbol of motion and movement. I created an installation that implies a multiple of perspectives of city living, and the underlying statement of reality and contrasting thoughts and space.

The western architecture of the window frames the various natural elements presented throughout the Cherokee Trail that many indigenous travelers explored for centuries.

Prospering Tranquility

Steel metal rods, metal sheets, welding | 2023

This piece Prospering Tranquility is a symbol of inner reflection and prosperity. It undergoes the idea of the serene feeling of growth within one’s battles. I use the icon of the spiral to indicate the endless cycle to seek peace, love and acceptance. The spiral can spiritually indicate a connection to divinity, with its outer ego and inner soul. It is the representation of birth, life, and death. It allows for the new and next stage in this realm. Prospering Tranquility is indicative of the emotional flow of energy to persevere. The spiral is also a recurring image presented in many forms in my work, as a resemblance to my spirit and my curly hair. This installation is made with various steel rods, sheet metal, found objects all connected by mid welding. The shapes of the face are organic and abstract, reflecting the innate growth of nature. I would like the viewer to consider their own path to serenity, and reflect their own spirit.
